Robert A. (Bob) Begotka is a Principal at The iMoreno Group, PLC, where his practice concentrates on immigration and corporate matters. During his career he has successfully represented clients in a broad range of corporate, commercial litigation, and immigration matters.
Bob’s immigration practice focuses on employment-based permanent residency (PERM) representations and nonimmigrant employment-based petitions and applications. Since November of 2020, The iMoreno Group has been appointed to serve as Special Counsel to the Commonwealth of Virginia for immigration matters. Pursuant to this appointment, Bob has provided immigration legal services to various Commonwealth of Virginia public universities and state government agencies. He has successfully handled numerous H-1B petitions and currently handles a number of PERM permanent residency matters on behalf of Virginia public universities. In addition, Bob has successfully represented Commonwealth of Virginia employees and their family members in their individual capacities on various immigration matters such as marriage-based petitions and permanent residency applications and applications to obtain and extend H-4 non-immigrant status. He also offers legal representation to individuals and businesses on a full range of other immigration matters, including family-based petitions and permanent resident adjustment applications; naturalization applications; nonimmigrant work visas; Temporary Protected Status (TPS); DACA; visas for victims of crime (U visas), students, and exchange visitors (J visas); and the immigration consequences of criminal convictions.
Bob’s corporate practice focuses on the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. He offers counsel and representation on matters such as the selection and formation of business entities; corporate governance; workplace policies and employment agreements; compliance with government regulations; resolution of business disputes; construction law; and the negotiation and drafting of a wide range of business contracts, agreements, and leases. Bob has significant experience as outside counsel on corporate transactional and governance matters. He has advised company and shareholder clients on corporate governance issues; negotiated and closed merger and asset sales; represented underwriters in the public offering and private placement of securities; and negotiated and drafted contracts for the sale and acquisition of commercial properties, management contracts, financing agreements, and employment contracts.
Additionally, Bob has represented clients before federal, state, and bankruptcy courts in a variety of complex commercial litigation matters from initial pleadings through trial and appeal. He has represented shareholders and regional, national, and multinational companies in a wide range of claims, including insurance coverage, lender liability, loan default, breach of fiduciary duty, employment discrimination, False Claims Act, and construction contract claims.
Bob received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was named a member of the Order of the Coif, was awarded the Hartfield Merit Scholarship, and was selected as a Dillard Fellow. Bob served as a Senior Editor of the Virginia Law Review, as an Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law, and as Director of the Migrant Farmworkers Project. He is admitted to the bar in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia. Bob is a graduate of University of Wisconsin—Madison where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations with Honors. He has lived and worked in South America and speaks fluent Spanish. He lives with his family in McLean, Virginia.
